Kate Braswell

Staff Architect

“One of the things I love about being an architect is the ability to work with so many disciplines to bring a project to life. I am constantly learning and adapting new ways to design and build for a more efficient tomorrow.”

Kate discovered her passion for housing design and sustainability during her thesis studies on Net Zero Housing and Micro-Unit living at Georgia Tech. A member of our Richmond studio, her project work continues to be heavily influenced by the building industry’s environmental impact, and she enjoys exploring innovative wood structural techniques including Mass Timber, as a result. In fact, while conducting research for her iLab on Passive House standards, Kate achieved her official certification as a Passive House Consultant from PHIUS and is now an advocate of energy efficient standards for all her projects. Internally, Kate is the Co-Chair of the firm’s High-Performance Design Committee, fostering education of sustainable building practices with our office and clients. At home, Kate enjoys creating art, exercising outdoors, or finding ways to deepen her learning for a sustainable future.
