The Building Block

National Association for the Education of Young Children

NAEYC’s new headquarters unites employees across a collaborative open environment that reflects the organization’s culture and champions its mission to promote high-quality early education learning.

A warm, sophisticated reception area and lounge welcome guests into the public-facing amenity center, designed to support and streamline the many functions NAEYC hosts year-round. A flexible main conference room connects to multiple break-out areas while an adjacent café provides convenient catering capabilities. Prominently located display areas provide multiple opportunities to showcase NAEYC’s brand and proudly highlight recent achievements.

Seeking to transition from private offices to an open office environment, NAEYC’s new headquarters unites staff across one floor through a deliberate balance of private and collaborative spaces. Workstations are centrally located and consolidated to allow for more room to grow in the future. Teaming rooms, equipped with whiteboards, line the perimeter for ease of access. New amenities like a recording studio, give staff the optimal tools to advance their mission and expand their reach while a new café and lounge provide a fun environment for lunch or happy hours with colleagues.

Sophisticated design interpretations of early-stage educational tools and unexpected pops of color add whimsy to NAEYC’s new home. The incorporation of desaturated primary colors for accent walls and furniture differentiates neighborhoods and departments in a playful yet professional way. Custom wood panels wrap the meeting rooms and café, creating a connection to learning blocks.
