Guilherme Almeida

Design Director + Director of Sustainability and High Performance Design

“Every choice is an opportunity to improve the built environment and leave the planet better for the next generation.”

Born in Brazil, Gui grew up in Boca Raton, Florida before moving to the DMV for college. He’s been with the firm since 2009, steadily climbing the leadership ranks and working across typologies. Gui takes pride in shaping the future of urban landscapes and believes architects have a responsibility to mitigate the built environment’s impact on climate change. Having designed the first net zero energy renovation in the Mid-Atlantic, Gui embodies his commitment to sustainability, seizing every opportunity to advocate for the incorporation of high-performance strategies within his projects—he even made sure his home meets net zero standards! Gui helped establish best industry practices as a former Strategic Council member within the AIA and was awarded the 2023 AIA Louise Blanchard Bethune Fellowship award, which honors retiring AIA Strategic Council members and celebrates their contributions to the profession. When he’s not tending to his garden, Gui enjoys spending quality time with his cat, checking out the local art scene, or playing tennis.
