Top 10 Moments from 10 Years in Richmond, VA

2026 marks 10 years since we first planted roots in Richmond, VA, and that’s something to celebrate! What began as a small presence in 2016 has grown into a thriving studio with a talented team of architects, interior designers, and brand strategists, and a portfolio of projects that have helped shape the communities closest to us and beyond, including Raleigh, NC.

In no particular order, here are 10 of our favorite moments and projects from the past decade in RVA:

1. Opening Our (First) Doors: Establishing our first official office in Richmond’s Arts District on E Broad Street quite literally opened many doors for new opportunities and laid the foundation for a more permanent presence within the local design community.

2. Shaping Libbie Mill – Midtown: Few places better reflect our long-standing relationships in Richmond than Libbie Mill – Midtown. From Wellsmith Apartments and The Neighborhood Clubhouse to the forthcoming Harp’s Landing apartments, we’ve had the opportunity to contribute to a community that continues to grow and evolve.

3. Giving Back: In 2025, we loved participating in ASID VA’s Barkitecture 2025 event by designing and hand-building a custom dog house inspired by a shelter dog that was auctioned off to support Richmond Animal Care and Control.

4. Earning Recognition: The Current became an example of the kind of impactful work we strive to deliver, blending thoughtful design with a strong sense of place. Receiving an AIA Richmond Award of Merit was a proud moment for all three of our services teams: architecture, interior design, and creative branding.

5. Growing with Gather: Before our first Richmond studio was established, we started out using a coworking space in Gather as a temporary office and operating hub. We’ve been proud to partner with Gather as the brand expanded across the Richmond region. From Short Pump and Midlothian to the Arts District location, each interior design project supported Gather’s mission to create flexible, community-focused workspaces.

6. Welcoming Students Home: Parc View at Commonwealth transformed a former hotel site into vibrant student housing just steps from Virginia Commonwealth University. Seeing students moving into the completed building was a rewarding milestone and a reminder of the powerful role thoughtful architecture and interior design play in shaping everyday experiences.

7. New to Scott’s Addition: As our Richmond presence grew, so did our need for space. Moving into our Scott’s Addition studio marked a new chapter, giving our team a space designed for collaboration, client engagement, and connection in one of Richmond’s most vibrant, up-and-coming neighborhoods.

8. Reimagining a Country Club: Our interior design work at Salisbury Country Club allowed us to create spaces that bring people together and elevate the member experience. The project reflects our passion for designing hospitality-driven environments that foster connection and comfort.

9. Bringing Color to The Hues: The interior design and creative branding at The Hues at City View embody the energy, creativity, and personality that make Manchester unique. The initial design concept was generated from the local context. Aimed at supporting modern living while creating a strong sense of identity, the project reflects the innovative work our Richmond studio continues to pursue.

10. Celebrating a Decade: Important milestones deserve a party, but we’re biased. We hosted colleagues, clients, partners, and friends in the office to celebrate 10 years in Richmond.

We’re proud of what we’ve accomplished over the past decade, and we’re even more excited about what’s next. Here’s to the next 10 years of designing places that inspire connection, strengthen communities, and create lasting impact throughout Richmond, the Southeast, and beyond.
