Starr Ashcraft
Interim Director of RVA Studio
“It’s our responsibility as designers to be thoughtful in the process and create a meaningful space that envelops the end user for years to come. From the materials we choose, to the executed detail, to the usability of the space;it all comes together to create a beautiful building for people to thrive in every day.”
Starr has been with Hickok Cole since 2008 after moving back to the DC area from Boston. Multifamily housing is Starr’s passion. She enjoys the complexity of designing mixed-use, urban buildings, that constantly change with the fabric of the city. Her specialty lies in combining wood frame efficiencies with high-design aesthetics to distinguish projects within the marketplace. Her commitment and care go beyond what is expected to encompass improving design standards, elevating detailing, and mentoring the next generation of architects. She is a champion of Hickok Cole’s full-service approach and works hard to show clients the value of having diverse design minds at the table from go. Starr keeps her creativity flowing outside of the office by baking treats and designing stationery—her work has even been featured in Martha Stewart!
