Laurent de Comarmond

Principal

“I turn ambitious concepts into buildings that work—for the people who use them and the neighborhoods around them.”

With more than 30 years of experience across commercial development, higher education, master planning, multifamily housing, urban infill, and high-rise projects, Laurent brings a broad perspective to design and a deep curiosity about how buildings shape the places around them. His career began in Washington, DC, where he developed an appreciation for the city’s distinctive urban plan and the ways buildings can strengthen the street experience. After building his career across a range of markets and project types, Laurent has returned to Hickok Cole, having worked at the firm in the late 90s. He is now based in Raleigh, NC, where he sees an opportunity to add density while preserving the natural environment and outdoor connections that make the city unique. From leading complex projects and coordinating multidisciplinary teams to balancing design intent with the realities of budgets, schedules, and execution, Laurent brings both vision and practicality to his work. Outside of work, he is an avid traveler and often finds himself stopping on street corners to photograph buildings.
