Mike Johnson II named President-Elect of IIDA International Board of Directors

We are proud to share that Mike Johnson II, FIIDA, AIA, NOMA, Associate Principal and Director of Interiors, has been named the 2026-2027 President-Elect for the International Interior Design Association’s (IIDA) International Board of Directors.

As one of the design industry’s leading professional organizations, IIDA advances the value and impact of interior design worldwide. Mike’s appointment reflects his longstanding commitment to the profession and a career dedicated to shaping award-winning, people-centered environments rooted in wellness, culture, equity, and human experience.

“Design leadership is about more than creating spaces; it’s about creating opportunity, building community, and shaping a more inclusive future for the profession,” said Mike. “I’m honored to continue serving IIDA and collaborating with leaders across the industry to advocate for the power and impact of design.”

Just last year, Mike was inducted into the IIDA College of Fellows, the organization’s highest honor, recognizing exceptional leadership and contributions to the profession. His involvement with IIDA spans years of impactful service. In addition to serving multiple terms as Vice President on the IIDA International Board of Directors, he served as President of the IIDA Mid-Atlantic Chapter and co-founded the chapter’s Propelling Leadership + Advocacy in Interior Design (PLAID) program, which supports emerging design professionals through mentorship and leadership development.

Since joining Hickok Cole in 2022, Mike has helped grow and evolve the firm’s interior design practice through work with mission-driven organizations, including The DC LGBTQ+ Community Center and [solidcore] headquarters. Building on our longstanding relationship with National Public Radio (NPR), which began with the design of its DC headquarters, Mike is currently leading an office refresh. He is also helping shape National Geographic’s adjacent office spaces to the new Museum of Exploration, reflecting his commitment to creating thoughtful environments that advance each client’s mission.

Mike’s leadership within IIDA and across our practice reflects our ongoing commitment to designing spaces and fostering conversations that move people, organizations, and communities forward.
