The original building was constructed in 1888 with three additions made throughout the 1900s, each designed with different structural systems. A portion of what was once the exterior façade is incorporated as an interior partition, most prominently featured in the multipurpose room where old window frames provide a glimpse of the nearby focus-work areas.
Historic elements, including a coal chute, fireplaces and brick partition, are embraced to anchor the coffee bar, collaboration area, and medium conference room. During construction, the team worked with a mason to identify existing brick areas that required repairs and find solutions to infill dangerous areas while carefully preserving the material’s character.
