On March 20th, Hickok Cole hosted a Building Community happy hour to introduce the Arts on the Block studio design to our industry partners. The Arts on the Block (AOB) studio crew presented their works in progress, shared donor opportunities for the studio build out, and led a mosaic workshop for the event attendees. Our interior design team, led by Kirsten Lytle, illustrated the vision for the new studio design with renderings and a virtual reality experience so everyone could walk through the new mosaic studio.
Thank you to all our friends in attendance for your excitement to get involved, and to our engineering partners GPI Engineering for joining us on this project. We’ll be reaching out to new partners throughout the summer.
Please email us you’d like to learn more.
Special thanks to the many Full Circle Committee event volunteers, the Happy Hour Committee for donated beverages, and Pizzeria Paradiso for donated food. Hickok Cole and GPI Engineering are partnered with local arts education nonprofit Arts on the Block to design their future home in the Downtown Silver Spring Library. This new, highly visible location will expand art and design training to creative youth and create a community destination for art activities.
Thank you to our supporting sponsors:
On July 17th HCA hosted its first ever blood drive in collaboration with the American Red Cross. With the help of 27 donors the Red Cross was able to collect 19 units of blood to help support a current deficit in the local blood bank. Donations were down about 10% in June and the Red Cross issued an emergency request for donors of all blood types. Hickok Cole Architects was eager to do their part as one of this year’s 25 Acts of Kindness campaign. Every two seconds, someone in the U.S. needs a blood transfusion. Our motto? Go GIVE!
Continuing our 25 Acts of Kindness, the Full Circle Committee organized a volunteer day on Saturday, June 16, to help Team Capitol DC build the Harvest House, their entry for the U.S. Department of Energy’s 2013 Solar Decathlon. Harvey Cleary joined the effort and we had an exciting and successful day installing flooring, rain screen and building walls among various other projects. We couldn’t have asked for a better team, better energy or better weather! A huge thank you to all who came out and to our hosts at the Catholic University of America! Continue reading
As part of our 25 Acts of Kindness, the Full Circle Committee organized and hosted a book drive for Hickok Cole Architects and the local Georgetown Community. We donated 545 books, 233 CDs, 96 DVDs, 3 cell phones, and 1 laptop to Books for America. This included several large donations from industry partners and passers-by who noticed the sign in our lobby. Continue reading
As one of Hickok Cole’s 25 Acts of Kindness, the Full Circle Committee collected thank you cards to send to members of the military for the 4th of July! All cards were sent through A Million Thanks, a year-round campaign to show our appreciation for our U.S. Military Men and Women. On Friday, May 24, HCA kicked-off the Memorial Day weekend by hosting a Patriotic–themed happy hour to sign the cards. Continue reading
