Ryan Dirks is a graduate of the University of Oregon where he earned his Master of Science in Architecture. Ryan’s experience includes a wide range of project types and sizes, from large scale office buildings and hospitals to single family residences and townhouses. He is devoted to high performance design, especially in researching and improving the effectiveness of the Passive House standard. This includes overseeing and developing most of the content for the recently published Passive House Details textbook, which demonstrates a range of effective design and detailing strategies for ultra-low energy buildings.
Ryan is also dedicated to education and research in the subjects of building science, energy use, and occupant comfort. He taught multiple courses on design and energy efficiency at the University of Oregon, and took part in a two-year research project that tracked the actual performance of the first affordable multifamily Passive House in the country. More recently, he has been involved in the Sustainable Design committee, and has presented his work to the office. He started at Hickok Cole in fall of 2017, and has been overseeing construction administration on a large office building in Maryland.
