Where Movements are Made

Bully Pulpit Interactive

Bully Pulpit Interactive sought to expand their DC headquarters into a larger space reflective of the company’s proactive, collaborative culture. The new 33,000-SF office pays homage to the city’s rich history while incorporating elements of the firm’s impactful campaigns.

The original building was constructed in 1888 with three additions made throughout the 1900s, each designed with different structural systems. A portion of what was once the exterior façade is incorporated as an interior partition, most prominently featured in the multipurpose room where old window frames provide a glimpse of the nearby focus-work areas.

Historic elements, including a coal chute, fireplaces and brick partition, are embraced to anchor the coffee bar, collaboration area, and medium conference room. During construction, the team worked with a mason to identify existing brick areas that required repairs and find solutions to infill dangerous areas while carefully preserving the material’s character.

Each floor has a multi-functional café for employees to gather for all-hands meetings, have quick team discussions, or socialize. The activity within the space allows visitors and clients to witness the energy of the organization through visible employee interaction.

From the cafe, staff enjoy views of the Washington Monument, a daily reminder of the impact their campaigns have on the city in which they work. Overhead, the space features a glimpse into the building’s history by providing a look at the inner-workings of the building’s clock tower.
