Helping Team Capitol DC for the 2013 Solar Decathlon

Continuing our 25 Acts of Kindness, the Full Circle Committee organized a volunteer day on Saturday, June 16, to help Team Capitol DC build the Harvest House, their entry for the U.S. Department of Energy’s 2013 Solar Decathlon.  Harvey Cleary joined the effort and we had an exciting and successful day installing flooring, rain screen and building walls among various other projects.  We couldn’t have asked for a better team, better energy or better weather!  A huge thank you to all who came out and to our hosts at the Catholic University of America! On Friday, May 24, HCA kicked-off the Memorial Day weekend by hosting a Patriotic–themed happy hour to sign the cards. Continue reading

Office Building of the Future in Finance & Commerce

On May 14th Mike Hickok joined the three other national winners of NAIOP’s Office Building of the Future competition in Minneapolis to discuss their concepts that won the competition.  Hickok Cole’s proposed building skin that responds to heat and light again drew interest from the crowd.  The architects agreed on a vision of the future workspace that is narrower (averaging 60-65 feet wide) and column-free, allowing for maximum floor plate flexibility and daylight penetration.  The four winners’ presentations are summarized here.

Lucky Number 13

Hickok Cole is listed as number 13 on the Washington Business Journal’s list of the top 25 architecture firms!  This is up one from our listing last year as number 14.  Rankings are indicative of the previous year’s metro-area billings.  Congratulations to our peers and industry partners who also made this list!

Inside the Beltway

On Thursday we joined NAIOP NOVA for their annual trade show and bus tour, this year of properties “inside the Beltway” including Alexandria, Arlington County, portions of Fairfax County, and submarkets of Springfield, Merrifield (including the Mosaic District!) and Tysons Corner. Shutting down the beltway was admittedly pretty darn awesome.
